My Dear Friends,
Amazingly, we try with great effort to fulfill desires that will never give us the satisfaction that God does. These desires that run deep in our hearts and minds come from a want or a desire to obtain something, because of wishful thinking. In fact, these desires are so deeply rooted until the only way of gaining complete happiness, the desire need to be fulfilled.
As an illustration, children desire the latest gym shoes, modern toys, or electronic devices. Single women may desire a husband, in like manner, single men may desire a wife. Preachers may desire to pastor a church; teachers may desire the perfect students. In addition, parents may desire their children to grow up and succeed in life while children may desire for their parents to understand them. Whatever the case may be, people desire certain things for certain reasons. It doesn’t matter what the desire, craving, or starvation may be, it can probably be found etched in your heart and mind and nothing will satisfy the desire until the desire is fulfilled.
Sometimes, we get desperate enough and try to substitute the desire with something else. Later, we discover that we only placed a band-aid on the desire because the yearning is still there, and true satisfaction is not at hand. So, we go through a life of trying to pacify our desires with things that are not what we truly want.
What is your desire, today? What is implanted in your heart and mind that you must be fulfilled? Well, it is important to know what God desires for us. In I Timothy, Paul wrote, “This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.” (I Timothy 2:3 NIV). His desire is that no one is lost. The scripture reminds us that, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV). God’s desire for human beings to be saved is deeper than our desires. How? We may try and substitute our desires with something else, but God’s desire for us will never change. He is an immutable God. In other words, He changes not.
God’s desire for us is better than we can ever imagine. Our responsibility is to seek Him with our whole heart. As noted in the text, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD…” (Jeremiah 29:13,14).
