God will hear your humble cry

By Lisa Wilmore

Scripture: And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazereth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he tried so much the more, thou son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, what wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight… (Luke 18:35-41).

My Dear Friends,

The late Fanny Crosby penned a song in 1868 entitled, “Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior-Hear My Humble Cry…” According to published resources, this famous song is based upon the aforementioned text, which exposes the blind man who cried out to Jesus to give him his sight. Yes, our Savior, Jesus, heard the blind man’s humble cry.

God, in like manner, heard the humble cry of the children of Israel and delivered them from the hand of the Egyptians. Moses records in the book of Exodus, “…And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows…(Exodus 3:7 KJV). Just when you think that God is not listening, He hears humble cries.

Without a doubt, “God will hear your humble cry”, also. What He has done for others, He will do the same for you.

Let us pray: Our Heavenly Father, hear our humble cry. The cry of loved ones who desperately need direction and guidance for next steps of their lives. The cry of a husband or wife who is seeking healing and deliverance in the midst of trouble. The cry of Pastors for their members and congregations. The cry of hungry children and their parents who are trying to provide them with food and shelter. The cry of the elderly who are lonely and unable to see loved ones walk through the door to provide comfort and joy. The cry of those who have lost jobs and do not know what their financial future holds-and the cry of people who have lost hope and forgotten that You are their only HOPE.

Thank You, Lord, for hearing our humble cry.

In Jesus’ Name, we pray, Amen.
