Garcia announces bid for District 17 seat

The race to fill the unexpired term of Judge Marcus Hunter as State Representative for District 17 has drawn another candidate.

Anthony Garcia, announced last week that he will be a candidate for the seat.

Garcia is a well known community activist and a rising star among African-American men in service in the community.

He will be joining the declared Candidacies of Rev. Rodney McFarland, and Police Juror Pat Moore for the seat.

Hunter vacated the seat after winning election as judge for the 4th District Court.

The District 17 serves Monroe’s Southside as well as parts of West Monroe.

Others who have served District 17 include: T.W. Humphries, Charles D. Jones, Willie Hunter and Rosalind Jones.

The February election only fills out the rest of the unexpired term, the winner will have to run again in October for the full four year term.
