Friends and neighbors have joined a community-wide search for a former school principal suffering from dementia who has not been seen since Friday.
Police are encouraged since a homeowner in the Lamyville neighborhood spotted Morehouse walking by her home on the family’s home security video.
Police are encouraging others in the neighborhood to review their videos as well. In the video, Morehouse did not appear hurt or endangered.
Over eighty officers from various police departments have joined in the search.
Saturday, friends of Morehouse, 67, former principal of Madison James Foster Elementary School, were searching neighborhoods trying to find Morehouse who was reported missing by family members on December 14th.
The Louisiana State Police has issued a Silver Alert and is requesting assistance locating Mrs. Morehouse, the award-winning educator, who has been stricken with the memory-robbing effects of dementia.
According to the State Police, she was last seen on Friday, December 14 at her residence located at 2801 LaSalle Street in Monroe at about 9 a.m.
She is a 67-year-old African-American female with black hair and brown eyes. She is approximately 4’10” tall and weighs about 110 pounds, according to State Police. She was last seen wearing black pants and a purple T-Shirt with “Hampton Family Reunion” printed on the front of the shirt.
Sheriff Jay Russell said Sunday that the Sheriff’s Department is also looking for Mrs. Morehouse.
Sheriff Russell said sometimes dementia patients are disoriented and don’t know where they are. He said the department has often found persons who wandered away in empty buildings and sitting alone not knowing where they are, waiting to be found.
Morehouse, loved by hundreds of students and South Monroe families for her motherly spirit as principal of Madison Foster, is believed to be in Ouachita Parish.
