“Falling in love with Jesus…”

By Lisa Wilmore

Dear Hearts,

“Falling in love with Jesus is the best thing that I have ever done.”

These lyrics, penned by Jonathan Butler, did not immediately resonate with me when I first heard them many years ago. At the time, I thought the words were unusual. I pondered, how does one fall in love with Jesus? Yet as my walk with Christ deepened, the song took on a profound and personal meaning. Now I understand, with full clarity, the depth and truth wrapped in its simple melody. There is something powerful about hearing a song that speaks directly to your spirit, reminding you of the One who knows you completely and loves you perfectly.

During a visit to one of the local churches in Monroe, LA, I heard the pastor speak passionately about how “Enjoying God” had become meaningful and refreshing for him. As he concluded his sermon, he emphasized through song, the beauty of “falling in love with Jesus”. What I gleaned from this pastor was the beauty of truly delighting in the Lord, and I understood him clearly because I share the same sentiments. My relationship with the Lord has also become not just necessary, but delightful-something I look forward to nurturing daily. Therefore, in that moment, the essence of falling in love with Jesus became even more real to me. Loving Him is not merely a confession of faith; it is a lifestyle, a commitment, a joy, and a privilege.

Have you fallen in love with Jesus? Do you bask in His endless love for you, a love that is patient, kind, unchanging, and eternal? Scripture reminds us, “We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Jesus’ love is not based on our perfection but on His grace. It is a love that pursues, restores, forgives, and sustains. When you truly fall in love with Him, your heart begins to treasure His presence, your mind seeks His wisdom, and your life is a reflection of His goodness.

My friends, how do you treat Him now that you have fallen in love with Him? Many have fallen head over heels for people who could never meet their deepest needs. They pour their time, thoughts, energy, and resources into relationships that can only offer fragmented, conditional affection. Meanwhile, Jesus offers a love unlike any other-a love that comforts the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), grants peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7), and promises to never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

To fall in love with Jesus is to recognize His matchless love for you and choose to walk with Him daily, trusting His plans and resting in His everlasting love. The Word declares, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3, NIV). Yes, dear hearts, falling in love with Jesus truly is the best thing you will ever do.

Jesus Saves!
