Wednesday afternoon the Board of Supervisors approved a recommendation to appoint Dennis Epps as the permanent Chancellor of Louisiana Delta Community College.
“Mr. Epps accepted the Acting Chancellor role during very difficult financial times, and he has done an outstanding job of leading the college despite the fiscal environment,” said Louisiana Community and Technical College System President Dr. Monty Sullivan. “Dennis is the right fit for the college and the community it serves. He possesses the needed skill set to address existing challenges, maximize talents, and develop a vision to continue moving the college forward.”
It seems that there is widespread agreement with Sullivan’s assessment. “Within minutes of the initial post to social media, congratulatory messages began pouring in from across the College and the state in support of Mr. Epps’ appointment,” says Darian Atkins, Director of Public Relations for LDCC.
Prior to joining the LCTCS as the Vice President for Workforce Solutions in February 2015, Epps served as the Deputy Director and Associate Director for the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia; the Director of Operation, Archway Partnership at the University of Georgia; Economic Development Specialist, The Fanning Institute at the University of Georgia; and Executive Director, Planning and Community Relations as well as Vice-President of Economic Development at Southeastern Technical College, Vidalia, Georgia.
Mr. Epps has a B.S. in Agriculture, M.Ed. in Adult and Vocational Education and has been working on his Doctorate of Education degree. He is the author of numerous publications on economic development practices, civic engagement, collaboration and various other topics.
Epps is ready for the permanent seat. “I am tremendously excited to have the opportunity to serve in this capacity. I have formed so many strong ties to the community, great friendships with common goals for the future,” shares Epps. “Internally, we have a strong, committed team focused on the needs of our students and employers. Who wouldn’t be thrilled to have this opportunity to serve?”
A reception will be held in Epps’ honor Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 11-12 noon at the Monroe Campus, located 7500 Millhaven Road. The reception is open to the public.
