Delta Fest goes down at Civic Center

Delta Fest is the largest festival in the Monroe area. Each year the city attracts thousands from surrounding areas to the Monroe Civic Center for food, arts and crafts, and live music. The carnival-like atmosphere provides a great outing for adults and children. The Festival highlights a main concert each year that is supported by local radio stations and business leaders. This year the showcase was hosted by Comedian Robert Powell, a Monroe native who has made a name for himself around the country touring with the biggest comedians in the industry. Powell was the winner of the Shaq Allstar Comedy Showcase and has been a national headliner since. He kept the crowd crying in laughter.
90’s R&B has become a popular trend and Delta Fest picked up on it with this year’s roster. Popular groups Dru Hill and H-Town sang all their popular hits. The ladies knew every lyric and note and they screamed uncontrollably as the R&B hitmakers impressed them with their stage performances.
But, it was Louisiana Native Hip-Hop artist, Juvenile, who stole the night. Juvenile wasted no time going back to his many hits with the Hot Boys including, “Project Chick”, and “I Need A Hot Girl”. His performance was electric. The crowd knew every word to his popular hits including, “Slow Motion”, “Ha”, “Nola Clap”, and of course his signature hit, “Back That Thang Up”. Delta Fest once again proved why it is the most popular festival in the Monroe area and why it is poised to continue growing each year.
Families get a chance to hang out in a safe atmosphere and local businesses reap very well from the traffic and spectatorship of people who travel to Monroe from the smaller outskirts of the region. Louisiana Creole Classic dishes and even Soul Food is available at the Festival. Vendors usually make out pretty good during the festival which has been around longer than the age of many of the people attending. They wait all year for it and this year it was well worth the wait.
