The community is mourning the death of Frederick “Bear” McHenry, the former athletic director of Ouachita Parish School.
McHenry died Tuesday, March 10, 2020, after a lengthy illness.
McHenry officially retired as the athletic director of Ouachita Parish High School in May of 2019 officially ending a 50 year legacy of sports administration and coaching in Ouachita Parish.
“Freddy Bear” as he was affectionately called by all who knew him, helped thousands of young men and women graduate to success in life as a coach at Richwood, Ouachita and other schools over his 50-year history. At his retirement celebration, he was given a special plaque from Ouachita praising his tenure at the school since 1986.
In reflection, co-workers, students, and the general community praised him for his professionalism and ability to motivate students to pursue their dreams.
