Christians, lift up your heads, “He’s alive!”

By Lisa Wilmore

Scripture: The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it.  Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment (Luke 23:55-56).  On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.  They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.  While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.  In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:  ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” (Luke 24:1-7a).

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In light of what is happening in our world and around us today, our joy is found in what Jesus did for us on, before, during and after the cross. I am overwhelmed with joy in my heart as I meditate on our aforementioned text which encompasses the love and dedication of our Savior from certain women penned by Luke, the historian. The Apostle John makes mention of these same women standing at the foot of the cross during the crucifixion of Jesus (John 19:25-27). Additionally, in the text, they have brought spices to anoint the Lord’s body. Can you imagine their heart-felt emotions for the One they walked and talked with during His time on earth?

When I read about what the religious leaders did to our Lord, it breaks my heart; nevertheless, simultaneously, it brings joy to a bowed head. However, no matter what is going on in our world today, our heads should be lifted-basking in the fact that “HE’s ALIVE!”

Truly, it is a wonderful joy knowing that Jesus died, was buried, and rose so that you and I could live eternally. After His resurrection, our sins that He bore on the cross were washed away to never be brought up again or presented to the Father.

Dear Hearts, our hope is built on our Resurrected Savior. Therefore, “lift up your heads, ‘HE’s ALIVE!’ “My prayer is that God Bless and protect you always!
