Each year, as required by law, the Joint Highway Priority Construction Committee, which is comprised of the House and Senate Committees on Transportation, Highways and Public Works, holds nine public hearings to receive input for the establishment of the highway construction priority program for the upcoming fiscal year. The hearings are held in each of the nine highway districts and are commonly referred to as the “road show” hearings. We want to thank our local elected officials, community leaders, and constituents for attending the meeting on Tuesday, February 6 at the Monroe Civic Center. Their presence mattered!
There are several capital outlay projects in our districts that the state has allocated dollars to fix the problems. Two of the projects are major concerns for us.
The Bayou Mouchoir Drainage Improvement (an Ouachita Parish Police Jury Project) on Richwood Road 2 which causes flooding in the Parkview and Trichell Apartments, Robinson, Place, and King Oaks. For several years, we have allocated the dollars to fix the problem. Clifton Lewis and Jamie Mayo who live in the King Oaks community spoke before the committee and expressed their concerns about the flooding problem caused by Bayou Mouchoir.
The Georgia Street Pump Station Project (a Monroe City Project) is a much-needed project because of the flooding problems that impacts over 700 homes in the area. For several years, we have allocated the dollars to fix the problem. We want to thank Kenneth Wilson, elected officials, and concerned citizens in the area for their consistent fight for fixing this problem.
We need these projects completed.
