CAP has $600,000 to help pay back-rent, utilities, funeral expenses so apply now

The local CAP agency has money to help those who were hit by COVID last year, even if you have been helped by other CAP programs in the last year. Those who have not applied for the help need to get in a hurry, the money has to be gone by September 30, 2022

Judge Larry Jefferson, chairman of the board of directors of CAP, said Wednesday that CAP has about $600,000 to distribute to families that were adversely impacted by COVID-19, but there is a sense of urgency because it must be spent by the end of September.

Christopher Rodgers, assistant director of CAP says there is a need for the assistance and he wants to be sure that everyone who needs the assistance can get it.

Rodgers said the funds are coming through CARES ACT, recently approved by Congress.

He said the funds are an extension of funds CAP received last year. They are designed to help people who may have been disrupted economically by the impact of COVID.

Importantly, Rodgers said, the funds can be received even if a person has already received help from CAP within the last year through one of its other programs.

He said the program assists persons with mortgage payments, back rent, utility bills, and funeral expenses that resulted from COVID shutdowns, loss of income, deaths, or other economic problems that can be associated with COVID.

We thank Judge Jefferson and the Staff of CAP for letting the community know about these funds because they are definitely needed.

To be eligible, a family of four must earn less than $55,500 a year. A family of eight must earn less than $93,260 a year. It’s obvious that thousands of families in South Monroe are eligible for help.

Folks, it’s first come, first serve.

Some who heard about the program through the grapevine have received over $4,000 in payments.

Gather up all your receipts, along with any documentation to show layoffs, sickness, or COVID-related deaths or other losses.

You must call CAP and set up an appointment and 318-322-7151.
