The Monroe City Council on Tuesday night rejected Mayor Friday Ellis’ second nominee for chief of the Monroe Fire Department, voting 4-1 without comment against confirming Timothy Williams.
The council’s Southside members, known as the “Brown Bombers”, voted unanimously against the nomination. Doug Harvey, the only Northside member present at Tuesday’s meeting, cast the lone vote in favor of Williams’ confirmation. District 2 Councilwoman Gretchen Ezernack was absent from the meeting.
