A new chapter in Monroe’s political landscape is set to begin Tuesday at 6 p.m. as Bishop Rodney McFarland is expected to be elected chairman of the Monroe City Council, marking a changing of the guard powered by Southside leadership.
McFarland’s rise to the chairmanship comes as part of a strategic plan crafted by the Council’s three Southside members—Councilwoman Juanita Woods (District 3), Councilman Verbon Muhammad (District 5), and McFarland (District 4)—a trio that has become known in political circles as the “Brown Bombers.”
