Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council are pleased to announce the following: The offices below will be closed on Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th in observation of the July 4, 2015, Independence Day holiday. Monroe City Hall and all City Offices, Public Works, City Marshal, Masur Museum, Community Centers, Monroe Civic Center (with the exception of an already scheduled event). Note: Monroe Transit will be open Friday, July 3rd but will be closed Saturday, July 4th. The areas below will be open on Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th. Chennault Park Golf Course and Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo.

5th Annual Newtown Picnic

WHERE: Chennault Park

The 5th annual Newtown Picnic in the Park will be held at Chennault Park from 3:00 p.m. until. There will be no cost. Meet and Greet will be at the Jazz Club, located on Washington St. our host will be Otis Jones. We will honor the Young Family, Katie Collins, and Mr. Kenneth Wilson. The Young Family has been a great representative of business in the Newtown community since the 60’s. The Newtown kids all have loving stories to tell about how they enjoyed the treats while growing up in Newtown. We want to offer our condolences on the loss of their eldest brother Leotis and mother Mrs. Young. Happy Birthday to Katie Collins, thanks for your love and guidance for 100 years and we wish you many, many more. A very special appreciation to our City Councilman Kenneth Wilson and the PEEP program for their many years of devoted service of the Newtown Community.
